Dhwani 2023 : Make their lives safe and sound

This is an update on our campaign with the Safety Ambassadors of the Mallya Aditi International School who helped us raise funds for hearing impaired children.

We joined hands with Hearfon Systems Pvt Ltd and Sheila Kothavala Institute for the Deaf in Bangalore. Three children were chosen by the school : 2 of them are from grade IX and one form grade I. All of them have been fitted with hearing aids and provided with the kit and training to take care of the instruments. The Hearfon team will review the usage after 2 weeks and fine tune the hearing aids if required. They will also monitor the usage and instruments at regular intervals.

Dhwani 2023

11 Jan 2023
As usual, we joined hands with Hearfon Systems Pvt Ltd to help children with hearing difficulties. Two 11 year old children – Anaz Zohra and Mohammed Ibrahim – had received sponsorship for the hearing aids, but they needed additional equipment to keep these aids operational and effective.

Hearfon systems put together a kit that comprises of
* Electric Dryer for the aid – since the aid gets wet due to sweat, etc
* Batteries – to sustain for a year
* Mould – this improves the efficiency and comfort
* A cleaning kit for the mould.

Hearfon Systems will have monthly follow ups for speech therapy, and in the process coach the children learn to use and care for the hearing aids properly.

On receiving the kits, the parents were overwhelmed with the support given to the children and called to thank us personally as this would go a long way in ensuring that they use the hearing aids and benefit from them.

May the children experience the joy of sound!

We want to extend our thanks to Jayanthi K – Speech and Hearing Specialist and cofounder of Hearfon Systems. She has been a great partner to help us ensure that the support reaches the children who really need it, and will benefit from it.

Dhwani – A gift of sound to Pranav

We are privileged to be associated with Maharashtra Fellowship for Deaf based at Mohmedwadi, Pune. This year, we were instrumental in gifting Pranav, a world of sounds and music. The Foundation contributed towards the servicing of his cochlear implant. We always feel a sense of gratitude to be able to do these small deeds which make the life of those affected a little simpler.
The foundation thanks Dr Ambika Nagpal for helping us co-ordinate this action and follow up with Pranav to see how the Aid has helped him. Ambika in her own way has been helping improve the lives of inmates of an orphanage in Pune.
A big shout out also goes to Dr Pragya Kafle, a friend of Aru who has been contributing to Milaap on behalf of the Foundation. We were not even aware that she was doing this till we started getting receipts from Milaap saying, “Thank you, Dr Arundhati”. This gesture of keeping my daughter alive through good deeds is so so priceless that I shed tears of happiness.
Here is wishing Dr Ambika, Dr Pragya and all the people touched by their gestures a big thank you for their presence in our lives. There are so many people out there who do so much in their own quiet ways to help others. May you all grow in strength, deeds, health and fulfillment.
Sharing a few pictures of Dr Ambika with Pranav,  and Pragya.

Dhwani 2016

Sep 25, 2016

Our partner in Dhwani – Rajan Speech and Hearing Centre – is now  “Hearfon “.

This year, we took a different track.  Hearfon visited the Sheila Kothavala School for the hearing impaired to review the aids used by the students.  It was found that many children are not using hearing aids because of lack of batteries or the unit is not working for some reason, and the aid is just kept aside.

Therefore it was decided that we undertake the repair and servicing of the units.  As a part of the initial project 20 units were serviced, and handed back to the students.

Pictured in the photograph are Jayanthi from Hearfon, and Mrs Jessy Samuel, Principal, Sheila Kothavala school.

Dhwani 2015 : Helping A Hearing Impaired Child

Rajan Speech and Hearing Centre is a co-partner in this initiative. This year, they identified Harish who is only 8 years old, a resident of Tumkur, and a student in Standard III at the Government School there. Unfortunately, Harish has hearing impairment in both his ears.

Rajan SHC and The Arundhati Foundation have split the cost to provide Harish with hearing aids for both ears.

Here’s wishing Harish a sound-filled life!
