ADITI Scholarship 2020

The Aditi Scholarship is given to a girl student from an underprivileged background. It is with immense pleasure that we announce this year’s Aditi Scholarship – Ms Bhavani Jesval Of Shishu Mandir School has been chosen as the recipient.
Bhavani has been an active member of the Safety Ambassador program which is conducted by the Foundation in association with schools. Bhavani has been chosen based on her performance in academics and co curricular activities, her behaviour with teachers and peers, and her social contribution.

Sharing a little about Bhavani, her dreams, and experience as a safety ambassador. She writes and I quote,

“I am Bhavani, studying in class 9, at Shishu Mandir Education Centre. My hobbies are reading and pencil sketching and I also enjoy writing stories. My dream is to become an author. A part of my dream is also to bring about a change in the society which I hope to fulfill by becoming an author because it is my belief that words have an impact and influence people.
Being the young generation, it is in our hands to bring about change and by being a part of Safety Ambassador program (run by The Arundhati Foundation) I am able to make an effort to do so, and be a responsible member of our generation. I now think that accident isn’t just a mistake, it is a result of our irresponsible acts. The Arundhati Foundation believes that every accident is preventable if all of us act responsibly.
All of us have become so engaged in our lives that sometimes for our selfishness knowingly or unknowingly we harm others. We Safety Ambassadors are educated in all kinds of safety, especially road safety.
We have lots of activities and learn in unique ways. There are sessions taken by different people, quizzes, different demos on how to use safety equipments, etc. This is the learning part.
Then we educate other people on safety rules and how following them can bring about a positive change. We perform street plays and conduct rallies to spread awareness.
I am very happy being a part of this because it gives me an opportunity to serve our society.
If every Indian was educated on road safety and followed the rules, we could save an average of three lives every ten minutes. But, more importantly, we would be saving the source of happiness of three families, and their loved ones.

Another reason which made me happy being a part of this Foundation is the reason why it was started. The founders, Dr. Shubhangi Ma’am and Sanjay Sir started The Arundhati Foundation in memory of their daughter, ‘Arundhati’. Instead of venting out their frustration on losing their only daughter in road accident, because of someone else’s irresponsibility, they decided to start a foundation where they could educate people on road safety so that other people might be prevented from going through their situation. Their real life incident was an inspiration for me that when things go wrong instead of blaming my fate I should try to change other people’s.

I am proud to be a Safety Ambassador and part of The Arundhati Foundation.”

BioQuest 2020

We were able to conduct BIOQUEST 2020 before the lockdown. This event is held annually in the memory of Mrs. Vijaya S. Prabhu and Dr. Arundhati Tambwekar. This year the event was held on 12th March.

The department of Biochemistry, Goa Medical College, betters itself every year when they conduct this quiz in Biochemistry for the students of 1st MBBS. What I find extremely touching is how year after year, they manage to source lotuses to present to winners to commemorate the emblem of The Arundhati Foundation.

The session was inaugurated by the Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Shivanand Bandekar. Dr Andre Fernandes, Professor and HOD Department of Forensic Medicine was the guest of honour along with Dr Jagadish Cacodkar, Professor and HOD, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine.

The first prize was won by Rohan Luis Cabral and Saniya Mahendra Pednekar, the second place winners were Shrushti Prakash Mandrekar and Shubham Mablu Gaonker and the third place was bagged by Amisha Sawant and Siddhant Siddharth Desai.
Congratulations to all the winners.

I was lucky to attend last year, but this year, the corona virus pandemic made us stay put to curtail the spread. Dr Chitra’s team, as usual saw that the event went on very well. This year a group of young singers from 1st MBBS enthusiastically staged a wonderful performance. So heartening to see multi-talented youth.

The Arundhati Foundation thanks Dr Chitra Dhume, Professor and Head Dept Of Biochemistry, Goa Medical College and her entire team of Department Of Biochemistry for this event. It is only because of the support of such dedicated people that The Foundation has been able to do work of importance and quality in our small ways.

BioQuest 2019

Year 2019 has started with a lot of energy for The Foundation. January saw an exiting and highly successful quiz on safety for school children – SafetyQuest 2019 – in Goa. March saw me taking another trip to the favourite place of the family …GOA ! This time, to attend BIOQUEST 2019, hosted by The Department Of BIOCHEMISTRY, Goa Medical College.

The Foundation has been associated with BIOQUEST since 2015. However, this is the first time I had an opportunity to be present in person for this quiz competition in the subject of Biochemistry. The brain child of Dr Chitra Dhume, HOD of the Department Of Biochemistry, and very ably supported by members of staff of the department, I was absolutely amazed to see how well it is organised and conducted.

The quiz was conducted on the 28th of March and was attended by the whole first MBBS batch students and also a few seniors. The preliminary rounds had been conducted earlier and five teams of two students each won a place in this years finals. I loved the names they had given the teams : Amino acid group , Buffers group, Carbohydrate group, DNA group and Enzymes group! The enthusiasm of the participants and their friends in the audience was fantastic! Quizmaster Dr. Karapurkar did a wonderful job ! There were surprises and tough fights till the end. The winners of the first place were Ms Aindri Tiwari And Ms Gautami Nitin Rao. However, each one of the finalist went home with textbooks which will help them in the 2nd MBBS and a trophy each!

The prizes were sponsored by Dr Chitra Dhume in the memory of her mother and The Arundhati Foundation in the memory of Aru. Incidentally, she was a topper in the subject of Biochemistry.

I also addressed the students and held a Road Safety Awareness Session. In the audience, there were atleast ten individuals who had lost a family member in a road traffic accident. Just goes to show Road Safety is so important a subject in the current scenario.

It was a day spent extremely well for me. It was indeed touching to see that every year a staff member gets lotus flowers in Aru’s memory, the symbol of The Arundhati Foundation. Each finalist is welcomed on stage with a Rose, on behalf of Dr Chitra’s mother and a lotus, on Aru’s behalf.

I am indebted to Dr Chitra and each and every member of the team for a fantastic organisation of BIOQUEST 2019. I look forward to the next and am sure , next year we will together make the BIOQUEST 2020 another grand success!

BIOQUEST 2018

BIOQUEST is a Biochemistry quiz held at Goa Medical College every year by Dr Chitra Dhume, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry. It has been a privilege for The Arundhati Foundation to be associated with the quiz. The Foundation sponsors prizes in the form of Pathology Textbooks for the winners of this quiz since 2015. Biochemistry was a subject that Arundhati had excelled in, and this is also in line with our aim to encourage the pursuit of excellence in Pathology. We deem it a matter of pride to be associated with Dr Chitra Dhume and her Department of Biochemistry which has been holding this event very efficiently.

This year, the quiz was held on the 22nd of March 2018.

A lotus is handed over to each of the winners. The lotus is a symbol of The Arundhati Foundation. We all know that the beautiful lotus grows in muddy waters. When our lives become muddy through difficult circumstances, it is possible to emerge with our effort, resolve, and perseverance, to make a difference. We hope that the lotus of The Arundhati Foundation carries this message to everyone it touches.

ADITI : Help spread knowledge

This year, The Arundhati Foundation was fortunate to receive funds from many friends. Many well wishers donated to help a cause. Sponsoring textbooks for students of HINDU BAALIKA PATHASHALA, one of the oldest schools in Bengaluru. The students studying in this school come from an under-priveleged background but have a zest to study and learn new things. We realized this fact during our interaction with the students during our Road safety lectures.

We could sponsor all textbooks for a hundred students. We would especially like to thank Mr Vijay and Mrs Manorama Joshi for their contribution to this cause.

Every person who donated towards this cause was given a copy of ‘ARUNDHATI:THE MORNING STAR’a compilation of select writings penned down by Aru.

Ms Noorein Fathima was provided a full scholarship to cover her tuition fees for standard tenth.
Noorien, a bright young girl had scored the second highest marks in standard ninth. We decided to encourage Noorien as the girl who stood first had already received a full scholarship for tenth standard from another patron.
Noorien who is a budding badminton player, hopes to do well this year and make her parents and school proud.
Here is wishing Noorien and all the students of HBP School a fruitful year.

To all our friends a grateful thank you for supporting Aru’s foundation and showering her with your love. We look up to Aru to guide us at every step and give us the strength and wisdom to do our duty of giving back to the society.

Aditi Awards 2016

It gives me great pleasure to announce the ‘Aditi Awards’ for the year 2016. The BIOQUIZ 2016 was held on 17th Of March 2016 at the Department of Biochemistry Goa Medical College by Dr Chitra Dhume, HOD, Biochemistry and her able and efficient team.

The winners of this year’s Aditi Awards are Rahi R. Shetye and Anurag Avinash Shenvi Dalal. The Arundhati Foundation congratulates the winners and hopes they will keep their quest for excellence on throughout their lives!

BIOQUIZ 2015

BIOQUIZ 2015 was organized by The Department of Biochemistry, Goa Medical College on 19th March 2015.

Dr Chitra Dhume, HOD, Department of Biochemistry, along with her team did an excellent job conducting the quiz.

As a part of the ADITI Scheme, The Arundhati Foundation sponsored Robbins Textbooks as prizes.

The recepients of these prizes were Mr Amogh Nishikant Prabhu and Mr Adithya Kamath.

Dr Ramesh Anant Dhume, Dr . Arundhati’s grandfather and Ex Professor of Physiology, Goa Medical College, presided over the function and gave away the prizes on behalf of the foundation.

We, at The Arundhati Foundation are grateful to Dr Chitra Dhume and her team for graciously helping us out in this endeavour.
